Today I Feel Like… is an ongoing participatory art project by Danish artist Jeppe Hein, commissioned by Therme Art, that invites children to pause, observe the present moment, and explore their inner emotional landscapes.

The project originated from a simple daily ritual in which Hein paints a spontaneous self-portrait in his watercolour diary, guided by the question: “How do I feel today?” Evolving from this intimate practice, Today I Feel Like… has grown into a series of workshops encouraging participants to reflect on their emotions and translate them into visual expression.

Launched at Manchester International Festival (MIF) in 2021, the project has since expanded to local schools in Bucharest and Sibiu, engaging young people in creative reflection through art and mindfulness. Each workshop begins with a meditative breathing exercise, cultivating presence and openness before participants create their self-portraits. In doing so, the project nurtures self-awareness, empathy, and connection from an early age.

Following each session, the paintings are digitised and made accessible online. Each artwork is linked to a unique code, enabling participants to revisit and share their creations within a growing digital archive that collectively portrays emotional life as it unfolds across time and place.

Rooted in Therme Art’s mission to inspire wellbeing through art, culture, and community, Today I Feel Like… reflects our ongoing commitment to create meaningful engagement and emotional awareness through creative practice.

With this project, I hope to inspire students to use the experience of being part of Today I Feel Like… in their everyday life: be aware of their breath, use it to calm down, and take notice of how they really feel.
