Therme Art partnered with Factory International to co-commission This Entry by Tino Sehgal, with support from Therme Group, presented at the 2023 edition of Manchester International Festival (MIF).
This marked the second collaboration between Therme Art and Factory International as part of an ongoing partnership with the organisation behind Manchester’s biennial city-wide festival. At MIF21, Therme Art commissioned Today I Feel Like… Manchester by Berlin-based Danish artist Jeppe Hein, engaging local schools and communities across the city.
This Entry, which debuted at the National Football Museum and the Whitworth, is a playful live work that brings together skilled individuals from diverse disciplines — including a footballer, violinist, cyclists, and singer-dancer — creating a dynamic platform for creative exchange.
Renowned for using the human body, voice, and social interaction as primary tools of artistic expression, Sehgal describes his works as “constructed situations.” This Entry is the first commission in The Trequartista – Art and Football United series, co-curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Juan Mata, and Josh Willdigg. The project offers an immersive, thought-provoking experience that encourages meaningful engagement between participants and audiences.
The Trequartista series will see eleven artist–footballer collaborations unfold over two years, culminating in a group exhibition at the 2025 edition of Manchester International Festival. Drawing on Sehgal’s background in political economy and dance, This Entry explores the subtleties of social encounters and the importance of participation and interaction.
This Entry was produced by Factory International for Manchester International Festival, in association with the National Football Museum and the Whitworth, The University of Manchester.
